The ANC Youth League on Wednesday threatened to close down Twitter if the social networking site failed to stop people from impersonating its leader, Julius Malema.
There are currently at least five people claiming to be Malema on Twitter and one has more than 12,000 followers.
Internet expert Arthur Goldstuck said if they tried to carry out their threat, they may find it more difficult than they think.
“A country like the United States wouldn’t be able to close down Twitter just because they object to what is on Twitter," he said.
